Where I’ve been and what I’ve been up to… + Windows 7 Review

Well it has been a busy time for me, I have done a proper exam, Worked ALOT and Installed windows 7.

I downloaded windows 7 and it works great, I hated vista so kept with XP but I have loved the windows 7 beta so far, so easy to use! hasn’t annoyed me once yet. I had a bit of a problem with the soundcard driver, but the sound works so its ok I guess. I also learnt how to partition which was a horrible task, but I’ll be better prepared next time. I have everything working on it now except for Delphi 7 which is a pity, looks like I’m lucky I decided to dual boot with XP to be safe. I have not been doing much in the way of art as of late, except for some coursework, But my next exam is soon then there should be none until June / July. Windows 7 looks really nice, all the effects are great don’t slow the system at all and of course a hell of a lot faster than vista, seems like XP performance wise. Current tid-bit on my partitions. 1 is 100% fragmented the other 0% fragmented, Random. My steam games work too, all of them even the beast of Gmod has worked without any problems. Expect more art in about a couple of weeks when this exam is over, my CW wont take too long I’m sure I can fit in drawing too.

Some free programs for people to use

I thought I would post some of the free applications I use or like, since I haven’t had time to do any new art.

For photo editing I use Photoshop, but a free program very similar is Paint.net (funnily enough that’s the site too). GIMP is another well known one, but is not as user friendly, yet has more advanced features.

For screencapture, I spent weeks trying to find a good one, most where horrible or had a stupid watermark, I found a nice free open source one called camstudio. No watermark and if you install the seperate download of codec’s you get a very good quality of screen capture.
Free office programs, none other than open office. It’s mostly the same as microsoft office, only with the great price tag of FREE.
I’m yet to find some good free video editing software.

For my friend, guardianwolf, you had a problem with a wirelessly networked scanner? I have a wireless all-in-one printer and if it messes up I just unplug the router, plug it in again and so long as your computer is the only one on the network it should be fine.

On a side not I have cam-studio working perfectly now just needed to configure correctly, but I cant get the codecs to work, they install but don’t appear.

Very busy – not with art :(

Have alot of work on my plate right now, but It should reduce in a week and then I should have a picture up every couple of day’s some of the work requires me to draw, which is good.

New Year.

Happy New Year everyone looks like the next couple of years will be tough for me but I’ll keep trucking. Not many fireworks here, but the london eye ones on tv were good, maybe a bit repetitive and smokey later, but what all can you do with a load of fireworks from the london eye?
